Lotus 35 Martin V8 first shakedown
9th May 2009
9th April - car has first dyno run and the numbers are:

- 260bhp/250Ib ft torque - or more less exactly what Brian Cutting's Escort produced. It's not amazing power for a 3 litre V8 - but the torque figure is not shabby - and remember the crank/heads/cams are over 40 years old. How long will it hold together though...?

22nd April - Car taken to Dunsfold for first shakedown. Manage 30 mins of running which highlights oil breather issues and major handling issues - even in a straight line...The dampers are 1965 rebuilt armstrongs - bloody dreadful!

8th May - Back at Dunsfold again - the above problems were alleviated but still fundamentally existed - although most of the oil stayed in the engine now - and at least I could drive it in a straightline!

It so happened that Chris Sharples from the HSCC happened to be at Dunsfold and appeared to be quite surprised to see the car!

I was given an invite to compete in the invitation class to race at the Snetterton Guards Trophy meeting - so finally get to the race the thing!
